Scarves!!! The Perfect Accessory Any Season!

Summer, Winter, Spring, or Fall; scarves are the perfect accessory! Raw fabrics, bold colors and pretty prints are just a few reasons why scarves are such timeless must-have pieces. I must admit I’m such a scarf fanatic that I pick one up whenever I travel…you just can’t have too many! Plus, a scarf is the perfect way to dress up any tank and jeans. If you don’t believe me, check with RihannaBelle…she certainly wears a scarf well! My new scarf look is the belted scarf pictured above...super cute, right?! "Belles of beauty. Believe it or not, the monotony of seeing the same group of young, black and fabulous at different venues in different outfits (I’m giving some of the fashion repeat offenders the benefit of the doubt, this time around) from week to week tends to weigh on my spirit every now and again.
So when I learned of Butterscotch Belle’s Urban Chic – an early evening event at EXO that was something totally different from the typical freakum dresses breaking it down to “Pretty Boy Swag” – let’s just say I was more than the least bit thrilled.

And when it was all said and done, the illustration of beauty techniques took me to the Third Heaven! They had the hair and makeup displays from STL heavy hitters performing demos and samples from eyebrows, eyelashes, faces and beyond.

Maria Antoinette, Marc Stevens Gallery (I see you, Tameka and Sean McGill), Shi Salon, Dr. Jennices and more were all on deck.The hair shows were sick – showcasing everything from cropped cuts to clip on weave! Thanks to the Butterscotch Belle ladies, I had non-wardrobe -related inspiration regarding my Salute to Excellence in Education aesthetic agenda for the first time in a while – thanks the hair, lash, lips and eye shadow game that was on official being sampled and showcased by some of the most beautiful beauty makers in town!"

Want Healthy, Shinny Hair? Eat This...Not That!!

It's extremely important to monitor everything that goes into our bodies for a number of reasons…but since this is BSB, a beauty and fashion blog…we will discuss 10 foods that make your hair healthy and look super shinny! Although you can take any of the vitamins listed below in the form of OTC supplements…eating fresh healthy, REAL food is always the best most pure place to get your daily source of vitamins! Our resident BSB Beauty/Foodiva says if it didn't grow from the ground or it is doesn't have a mother....don't eat it! Mrs. Obama is constantly talking about healthy eating and it shows in her hair! Happy Hair Eating!

1. Dark Green Vegetables
Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamins A & C which your body needs to produce sebum (the oily substance secreted by your hair follicles or the body’s natural conditioner)
2. Salmon
Jam packed with Omega-3 fatty acids and high quality protein. A deficiency can result in a dry scalp causing hair to look dull (vegetarians add 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to your meal) Side Note: You can take Omega-3 in the form of an over the counter pill.
3. Poultry
This is high quality protein, which you need because your hair is made from protein.
4. Eggs
One of the best protein sources you can find and include Biotin & B-12 (important beauty nutrients) Side Note: You can take Biotin & B-12 in the form of an over the counter pill.
5. Carrots
Vitamin A which promotes a healthy scalp, this is essential for a shiny, well-conditioned head of hair. Side note: They also help with vision.
6. Whole Grains
Wheat bread, fortified whole grain breakfast cereals are great for healthy hair and include zinc, iron and B vitamins.
7. Nuts
A deficiency can lead to hair shedding (brazil nuts, cashews almonds etc) packed with alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid that helps condition your hair to prevent this from happening.
8. Oysters
High zinc content, a powerful antioxidant (you can also get zinc from beef and lamb)
9. Beans
They provide plentiful protein to promote hair growth, and iron, zinc and biotin.

10. Low Fat Dairy or Even Better…Soy products
Great source of calcium, an important mineral for hair growth, also contains why and casein, two high quality protein sources.
